June 12-15, 2023  (3 day)


Bring a favorite pattern to class and we will dye wools chosen from your color plan to use in your new piece.  We will cover all the basic dye techniques: open pan with smooth and textured wools, gradation swatches, dip and spot dyeing, casserole or "painted" dyeing, marbelized and onion skin dyeing.


Along the way we will be experimenting with color creation as you, the student, imagine them, so there will be opportunities for hands-on dyeing as well.  


Arrive 3pm Monday June 12  -  Check in, introductions and social hour, dinner provided, discuss projects, begin dyeing.


Tuesday & Wednesday, June 13 & 14 - dyeing instruction, hooking, breakfast and lunch provided, dinner out at a local restaurant (not included)


Thursday, June 15 - Wrap up with projects, wool selections and questions, breakfast included, departure 11am


Cost: $485 + $80 materials fee includes 1 yard dyed wool + 1 yard fine linen, class fee, double room, breakfasts and lunches and first evening's dinner. $200 to reserve, and balance of $365 by May 15**





October 11-14, 2023 (3 day)


Reserved for teachers and experienced dyers eager to expand their already deep knowledge of color and dyeing into areas like: methods for matching colors (e.g., Fall neutrals, which aren’t so neutral after all), compiling a useful inventory, sharing the easiest and most dependable dyeing formulas and techniques (everyone goes home with shared wool samples and formulas) and generally enjoying the pleasures of “what if” and “let’s try it!”   Workshop supplies dyes and material fee covers two yards of wool dyed in class.

BEGINNER DYEING FOR YOUR OWN PROJECT - 4 person max

August 19-22, 2023 (3 days)


We will cover basic dye techniques (open pan, spot, gradation swatches, dip and casserole dyeing) and then advance to the next level of dyeing: how to match color samples and work with pre-colored wools, breakout (“shimmer”) dyeing, combination dip/casserole dyeing for flowers, leaves and scrolls, creating custom plaids, dyeing a “suite” of colors from one formula, using nature as inspiration, painting wool in layers and techniques for keeping the best methods for labeling and record keeping.

Sunday & Monday August 20 & 21 - Matching colors (open pan), dip and casserole combinations for flowers and Fall leaves, using pre-colored wools, creating "married" combos with dye and marbling plus TOD techniques, breakfast and lunch included, dinner out at a local restaurant (not included)


Tuesday August 22 - Final dye projects, labeling and dye record-keeping, wool selections, breakfast included, departure 11am

INTERMEDIATE/ADVANCED DYEING RETREAT - 4 person class

Arrive 3pm Wednesday October 11 - Check in, introductions & social hour, with dinner provided, choosing color "plans" & begin dyeing, discussing well-planned teacher inventory and simplest paths to obtaining a particular color. Lesson on color planning and discussion: do TOD techniques work?


Thursday & Friday, October 12 & 13 - Matching colors using pre-colored wool, dip-casserole combinations for objects in Nature, shimmer & breakout dyeing to create beautiful neutrals, how to use pre-colored wools, how to create "married" combos with dye, marbling and onion skins.  Breakfast and lunch included, dinner out at a local restaurant (not included)


Saturday October 14 - Final dye projects, labeling and dye record-keeping, wool selections, breakfast included, departure 11am


Cost: $485 + $60 materials fee includes 1/2 yard smooth + 1/2 yard textured hand-dyed wool + 1 yard fine linen, class fee, double room, breakfasts, lunches and first evening's dinner. $200 to reserve, and balance of $345 by Sept. 1**



**IMPORTANT - PLEASE NOTE - Since the workshops are small (4 people for dye workshops), they need to fill in order to be held.  Students are encouraged to sign up with a rug hooking friend, otherwise a roommate will be assigned since all rooms are doubles.  If the workshop needs to be cancelled by me, your entire deposit and class fee will be refunded.  If you cancel but are able to find a substitute for your place in the workshop, your deposit and class fees will be refunded.  Otherwise, cancelling in the 30 day period prior to workshop means deposit and fees are 50% refunded.  After the 30 day prior date passes there are no refunds (unless you find a replacement.

A group of six can also arrange for a workshop of their choice (4 max for dye workshops since they are hands-one), scheduled at everyone's convenience. Turn a gathering of friends into a learning retreat!
